WYANDOTTE MILL HOUSING PROJECT

Wyandotte-1Rochester Housing Authority
Rochester, New Hampshire

The Wyandotte Mill housing project was a complete rehabilitation of a four story, late 1850s, riverfront, former textile mill building.  The project involved the addition / reinstallation of a new upper structural floor and pitched roofs and structural restoration of deteriorating timber floor systems in an effort to restore the building to its original configuration.

Design efforts involved structural timber restoration / strengthening, site development, restoration of the cupola, the addition of interior stair towers, structural shearwalls, elevator and shaft, and a complete architectural adaptive reuse into elderly housing.

A notable detail is the lower level of the building had a hydroelectric power generating station that remained operational during the reconstruction effort.
